The Power of Womens Festivals
Music festivals hold the power of being able to bind diverse kinds of people together by their common love for music. Furthermore, women’s music festivals tie women of every age and gender preference not only by their love for music but also by their shared concern over the pressing issues of the time.
The very first women’s music festival premiered in the year 1973 in the United States. From then on, many other festivals were created and launched over the years, with their attendance varying from a few hundreds to several thousands. Though these festivals are still mostly centered on music, they are driven by current women’s issues and by the ultimate aim to celebrate the empowerment of the female community, concentrating on many facets of lesbian and feminist culture. Up to this time, these festivals continue to foster the same values in many countries, proving a testament to the increasing empowerment of women.
